Music is scaling the heights once again! On September 5th, the eighteenth edition of the "Music on the Heights" International Festival kicks off in Zakopane. Until September 12th, we will listen to, watch, experience, and marvel at art performed by outstanding artists.
The opening concert will feature the complete songs of Mieczysław Karłowicz—marking the 150th anniversary of his birth—alongside selected works by Eugeniusz Morawski. Subsequent evenings will allow us to discover fascinating facets of world chamber music, with events offering a rich variety of sounds: "Event Horizons", "Viennese Afterimages", and "Archipelago of Quiet Music". We invite fans of Johann Sebastian Bach to a master accordion recital. As every year, this edition will also feature premieres of new works by contemporary composers and a school concert showcasing students from secondary-level music schools in Bochnia, Katowice, Kraków, and Nowy Targ. The traditional film evening will present a psychological drama directed by Andrzej Wajda about a famous conductor and a violinist—a story of love and betrayal set against a backdrop of unethical machinations. The finale will feature the incredible *Symphony of Sounds* performed by the National Wind Orchestra of Lubin—but that is not all! As always, the "Music on the Heights" festival is accompanied by a range of interesting side events. From September 4 to 30, the Kościelisko Commune Regional Cultural Centre will host the eleventh edition of the "Creators of Podhale" exhibition. Meanwhile, from September 5 to 8, the Palace Museum invites anyone interested in the work of Mieczysław Karłowicz and his contemporaries to the "Beautiful 150-Year-Olds" musicological conference, which will explore the activities of Young Poland composers within the context of modernist Europe. There will also be meetings with the evening concert performers—hosted by musicologists and journalists—awaiting you at noon in the "Conversations at the Peaks Club."
